A trained neuroscientist and pharmacologist with more than 35 years in in the ophthalmic pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Najam Sharif serves as Vice President of Global Research and Development for Nanoscope. Prior to Nanoscope, Dr. Sharif played a pivotal role in the discovery and FDA approval of multiple commercial drugs, including Travatan®, Patanol®/Pataday®, and Simbrinza®. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Global Biomedical Sciences at Santen, leading clinical, data, and biometrics functions while spearheading global research partnerships.

Dr. Sharif earned his PhD in neuroscience, a DSc in ophthalmology, and dual bachelor’s degrees in physiology and biochemistry from the University of Southampton. He has published extensively, holds numerous patents, and remains active on scientific boards, including the Glaucoma Foundation. An elected Fellow of several leading scientific societies, he is also adjunct faculty at Duke-NUS Medical School and University College London. His accolades include the Barany Prize, the Sir James Black Award, and the inaugural Dr. Roger Vogel Award for Pharmaceutical Research.
