Dedicated to advancing treatments for serious eye diseases, Dr. Samuel Barone brings decades of clinical and regulatory experience to his role as Chief Medical Officer at Nanoscope Therapeutics. A board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist, he has clinical development and regulatory experience across ophthalmology, dermatology, rare diseases, and cell and gene therapy indications. Dr. Barone previously served as Chief Medical Officer at Gemini Therapeutics, Veloce BioPharma and Avalanche Biotechnologies, and was Senior Vice President at Adverum Biotechnologies.
Early in his career, he was a Senior Medical Officer at the FDA, where he contributed guidance on cell and gene therapy. A former U.S. Air Force flight surgeon, Dr. Barone has overseen global clinical trials and remains committed to translating innovation into impactful therapies.
Dr. Barone earned his MD from Penn State, completed his ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, and a fellowship in retina at UC San Diego.
