Dr. Vinit Mahajan is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Stanford University and a leading expert in retinal degenerative diseases. As Vice Chair for Research and Director of the Molecular Surgery Program at the Byers Eye Institute, he combines clinical excellence with innovative molecular research to better understand and treat complex retinal conditions.

Dr. Mahajan’s NIH-funded lab uses advanced genomics, proteomics, and gene-editing technologies to uncover the underlying causes of retinal degeneration and develop targeted therapies. His groundbreaking work includes identifying genetic mutations responsible for inherited retinal disorders and pioneering CRISPR and gene therapy-based approaches to restore vision.

A skilled vitreoretinal and gene therapy surgeon, Dr. Mahajan treats challenging cases of macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, and other degenerative retinal diseases. He is dedicated to translating laboratory discoveries into personalized treatments that preserve and improve vision.
